Brief Introduction
Shanghai Foreign Language School affiliated to Shanghai International Studies University, the first foreign language school in China, founded with the supporting of the former Premier Zhou En-lai, is under the direct auspices of the Ministry of Education, P. R. C. and one of the fifteen schools which have the qualifications of sending graduates directly to Foreign Languages Universities and Foreign Languages Departments / Schools of Universities without national entrance exam. At present, the school is the president institution of National Association of Foreign Languages Schools Affairs and the secretary institution of National Secretary Association of Foreign Languages Schools Affairs. After it was founded, the school aims to foster the excellent talents both on foreign languages and other subjects, and persists in the educational policy of enhancing foundation, developing intelligences and fostering competencies. There are a number of graduates entering famous and first-class international universities each year, such as Harvard University, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge University, Tokyo University, Waseda University and so on. Meanwhile, the promotion rate to the key universities in this school is over 92 percent each year. Accordingly, Qian Qi-chen, the former Vice-premier Minister of P. R. C., praised it as "the talents' cradle of foreign languages and foreign affairs". The excellent graduates are now active all over the world, and have gotten high reputation both at home and abroad. 
 
The school locates in Hong-kou District, and closes to the North Si-chuan Road, one of the three most famous commercial streets of Shanghai and the Duo-luo Road, a famous culture street. There are a large number of monumental places of Sino-Japanese culture exchange and modern Shanghai history and culture in the Hong-kou District, which held a profound atmosphere of history and culture. The school is equipped with first-class instructional establishments, such as tennis track, computer classroom, table tennis room, inside track and field stadium and so on. The foundation of the International Division of this school in 2000 and the International Division for Junior Students in the early time of 2005 makes the middle school education system of the International Division better, which will help to provide first-class education and learning environment for the school-aged students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries studying in Shanghai.        
 
Curricula Features
The International Division uses the teaching form of small class with 20 persons per class, and adopts the teaching approach upon different language curriculum level which depends on both the Chinese and English levels of students; meanwhile, the Division offers a series of Chinese courses and a series of English courses, which will be selected by learners' individual needs. Also, it will offer the chance of learning sole subject or transferring to another class in the Chinese Division upon each student's special needs. The junior graduates originally from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan as well as other regions and countries, who have learned the series of Chinese courses, will reach the level of junior middle school graduates of Shanghai, and are good at English and grasp the basic knowledge and skills of a foreign language. The curriculum placement of English series courses comes from the classical middle school textbooks of Longman.
 
The International Division, relied on the school's advantage of language instruction, encourages learners to choose various language courses such as English, Japanese, French, German and so on, which will be great helpful for the students to become international talents on the fields of economy and culture.
 
In order to meet the requirements of students, the school will offer various courses for student’s further education entrance emanations, such as the enhanced tutoring course of HSK. The students can take part in or set up after-class clubs with the instruction of related teachers, and organize activities termly. Also, the school will arrange one or two activities each term to let students live in local Chinese family which everyone can enroll and attend freely. Meanwhile, all will have one chance to attend a short trip each term and there is a long trip for the graduates.
 
Recruit Students:
The International Division selectively admits qualified students from Tai Wan, Hong Kong and Macao and foreign students from 6th grade to12th grade.

Applicants will be given a series of placement tests upon arrival at the International Division to determine the courses in which they will be placed suitably. The tests will include measures of competence in English, Math and Chinese.

Tuition fee
1. Academic Calendar: The common courses of the Chinese schools begin in September. It consists of two semesters. The first semester lasts from September 1 to February 28. The second semester lasts from March 1 to August 31. The winter holiday last from the middle of January to the following February, a period of almost one month, including the spring festival. The summer holidays last from July 1 to august 31.

2. Tuition fee: Middle school: RMB ¥35000 per term 

3. Accommodation: RMB ¥1300 per term (Dinner is not included)

4. Other fees: RMB ¥1200 per term (Include books with ¥800 and ¥400 after-class)

5. Life instruction for accommodation students:  RMB ¥7800 per term 

6. Shuttle Bus feeWe offer shuttle buses service for day students. School bus fee is   charged  by distance.
